Baking Basics classes are geared for beginning bakers. The classes are designed to give students an understanding of fundamental baking techniques and methods. Because baking involves tactile learning, these 4 classes will include hands-on participation in addition to some lecture and demonstration. A description of each class is listed below.
You will be baking with confidence, just in time for the holidays.

Note: Students who miss classes are entitled to make them up in future sessions.
Instructors: This course will be taught by JoAnn Hecht, Rita Horn and Deb Wasserman. JoAnn is an excellent, well respected cooking teacher and caterer who has co-taught Basics and many other classes in addition to assisting chefs and cookbook authors at Let's Get Cookin'. Rita and Deb are staff teachers who have graduated from our Professional Course, have assisted with many classes and have taught several classes here at Let's Get Cookin'.

| Pies & Tarts |
Students will prepare several Basic Pie and Tart Doughs along with sweet and savory fillings such as Custards, Pastry Cream and Fruit Fillings.

| Breads |
Students will learn to make Quick Bread with a Muffin variation, traditional Yeast Bread, Flat Bread and Enriched Egg Bread. Kneading, rising and forming techniques will all be covered.

| Pastries |
This class will introduce techniques of working with Phyllo Dough, Puff Paste and already made Puff Pastry. Proper handling, filling and baking of each kind of dough will be emphasized to help make them less intimidating to work with.

| Cakes |
Students will learn to make 4 different kinds of cakes including Pound Cake, a simple Chocolate Cake and a filled Roulade. Frosting and simple Decorating Techniques will be covered.
