Without realizing it, people are their own biggest critics. It is usually blamed on the outside world for inflicting negative energy on others and causing self-esteem issues from verbal abuse, but what a lot of us fail to realize, is that we are sometimes the only ones constantly talking down to ourselves. Many times, when people are faced with decision making, a negative voice pops up in our heads telling us all the reasons why whatever decision we make is a going to be a bad one and that we will fail at whatever we try to accomplish.

On a side note, it is true that the outside world is originally to blame for this bad habit. This may be because, as children, we were exposed to negative comments from great influencers such as our parents, peers, relatives, and teachers. With our young minds willfully learning facts and information from these people, we hang on to the things that stand out the most to us. And that just may be a piece of negative advice as to why we’re not good enough. This gets buried in our subconscious mind over time, and those negative voices adapt to the format of our own voice. But, you don’t have to live like this. With a few simple steps, you can change your negative thought process.

Identify the source of the Voice

In order to fix a problem; you must first admit that you have one. Take notice the next time you hear a negative voice when it comes time to make a decision. Identify where this doubt came from, whether it be from your mother constantly telling you, “you’re too young to do that on your own” as a child, or, your childhood best friend always treating you like a useless sidekick. Mark it the moment it pops up.

Replace the Negative with Positive

As soon as you recognize the birth of this self-doubt, ask yourself “is this true?”. Chances are, it’s not true, and you are not a worthless imbecile. Tell yourself the truth, that you are a human being who is capable of mistakes, and who is also capable of recovering from those mistakes. Overpower those doubts with positive truths about yourself.

Negative self-talk is not something we choose to pick up in the early days of our lives, but it is something that we choose to carry with us every day. The mind is a very powerful place and it sometimes hardwires itself, without your permission, to pick up certain habits that you wouldn’t wilfully keep. So the only way to rid this subconscious disease is to willfully tackle it every time it flares. In addition to that, you should also consider performing subconscious mind exercises like meditation. Everyone knows that in order to maintain a healthy relationship, you need to have constant communication with your partner. So why not treat your mind the same way? Choose to become friends with your subconscious self and in no time, you will become a haven of true, positive thoughts.
